From Electronic Warfare to a Billion: The Rise of Contra Drone

Andriy Yakovchuk from Netishyn owns Contra Drone — the brand of LLC "Fly-Group Ukraine," co-owned by Tymofiy Yurkov.

A 230 Thousand Device That Did Not Provide Protection

According to ANTIKOR, servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine purchased the Contra-drone Anti-drone Ultra through a charitable foundation for over 230 thousand hryvnias, but the device, they say, blocked frequencies with gaps and provided a low level of interference. When the module failed, "Fly-Group Ukraine" refused to provide a replacement or explain which module was suitable, calling this a commercial secret. The military operated at positions without electronic warfare equipment while the company remained silent.

50 Searches and Unclear Financial Flows

According to ANTIKOR, "Fly-Group Ukraine" underwent 50 searches, and the company was charged tax liabilities due to the improper use of 200 Chinese inverters imported under a customs exemption supposedly for producing electronic warfare equipment. Besides Yakovchuk, open sources associate Tetyana Makodzeba, Vladyslav Mazyaruk, and brothers Maksym and Taras Shapoval with the company — their roles in financial operations require verification, the publication states.

A Vacation for a Million Amid Military Complaints

According to Zmione's publication, the Yakovchuk family spent about 1 million hryvnias in a year, of which 932 thousand hryvnias were on vacations in Europe. The publication claims company funds were withdrawn through a network of controlled sole proprietors using crypto wallets. The electronic warfare business is growing faster than the trust in it from those who were supposed to be covered by this equipment at the positions.

About the Special Register

The Special Register is a special project by the Ministry of News about people who systematically scrub information about themselves from the internet.

Every day, we see news stories, investigative reporting and other publications disappear from the web. Often, this is not an editorial decision but a deliberate effort: mass DMCA complaints, bogus copyright claims and pressure on publishers. In this way, some individuals try to remove references to criminal proceedings, corruption scandals, debts or dubious business schemes from the public domain.

Despite the scale of this activity, it rarely receives an adequate response from government and law enforcement agencies. That is why we have brought these cases together in one place and cover each person individually.

For each person in the Register, we publish:

  • information from open sources;
  • publications about them, including those that have been deleted or edited;
  • DMCA complaints submitted to have those publications removed.

Publication histories and evidence of deleted content are available on the main Ministry of News website.

Our goal is to preserve access to information that others are trying to hide. The Register will help journalists, banks and financial institutions conducting checks on clients and counterparties, business partners and members of the public. It will also enable law enforcement agencies to finally take notice of these facts and give them a proper legal assessment.

We rely solely on documented facts and primary sources. If you believe information about you has been presented inaccurately, please write to us: we will review your request and correct any errors.
